året:
THE MENIERE ASSOCIATION IN THE
STOCKHOLM REGION, SWEDEN Stockholm 2006-07-08
Dear friends,
Here is the annual report of 2005
As you can see above; there are
hearths as a symbol for our work. We want to work with
the hearth for joy and wellbeing for our members and
ourselves.
The board is working to find new ideas
and tries to create activities corresponding to the
needs of our members. We know it is not easy to meet all
the needs. It is sometimes difficult to get response
from the members in the Association to the board. It is
also difficult to co-operate with the professionals as
they only see us as a patient group and are not asking
for our experiences. This must change as we are the
experts, and we have the knowledge of hospital treatment
and personal knowledge of the decease.
We think we have succeeded in
cooperating with the Karolinska University Hospital
about treatment plans for people suffering from
dizziness. This will lead to a focus report for Ménière
and dizziness patients. It will include many big and
difficult conclusions. The association has contributed
with the perspective of the patient.
The on-going training of the members
of the board gets much attention. We can always get
better and learn more about how to do the best for our
members and our selves.
During autumn some of the members of
the board attended a course on leadership of study
groups about Menière’s disease.
Our home page on the Internet is much
visited. There you can share your experiences with other
patients and ask questions and get answers about
Menière’s disease.
This has been another year full of
interesting events.
We are having the warmest summer in
decades – enjoyable for some and bad for others of us
having this decease. I think all of us waited for the
long dark winter to end but the heath are making some to
stay indoors.
Some of our activities during the last
year:
* The board had five meetings.
* The annual meeting was held in February and
Yvonne Olsen was re-elected chairman.
* A lecture about how to live with dizziness and
balance problems was held by nurse/licentiate Barbro
Mendel, Karolinska University Hospital
* A one-day conference for the board of the
association was held in April.
* The spring closing was in May with an
excursion.
* Teambuilding for the board was held in August
and December.
* A lecture about tinnitus was held in October by
physiotherapist Viveka Nyman
* The Autumn meeting was held in November
* The autumn activities ended in December with a
smaller feast.
* Lectures and information were held
during the year to the hospital rehabilitation groups
and to the general public by members of the board.
* The Self-support-group met every second Tuesday
giving support and information.
